Ara Thorose

Ara Thorose is an American artist and designer from Los Angeles, now living and working in Brooklyn. He received his MFA in 3D design from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2015. 

 

From the artist: "In my work, line is primary. It is the record of a point moving through time. By measure or feeling, a path is traced and etched with tension. A storyline. Cylinders expound line with volume, translating abstraction to sensual form. Through cylinders, line’s stories are told in the primal code of an undulating volume, its tensions sensed by our own volume."

Thorose's Soft Cylinders series was the recipient of Interior Design magazine’s 2019 Best of Year Award. His 5M Chair received the distinction of Editors’ Pick by The Architect’s Newspaper in the 2019 Best of Products Awards. His work has been featured in Surface Magazine, Architectural Digest, Milk Decoration, on the cover of Elle Decoration NL, and a feature in the forthcoming inaugural issue of Dovetail magazine.
