Bahareh Khoshooee

Bahareh Khoshooee is a multidisciplinary artist born in Tehran, Iran in 1991, the year the Internet was made available for unrestricted commercial use. In her work she explores the underlying tension between reality and fiction, confabulation and manipulation, false memories and alternative facts. Khoshooee not only uses social media as her platform but deconstructs its visual language, utilizing its limitations as a way of subverting the nature of virtual culture. She harvests personal memories and cultural references (both Iranian and American) as the raw material for creating hybrid characters and fabricated circumstances. As a result, due to the free-floating absence of the referent, her video-installations and performances feel strangely familiar yet foreign, seducing the viewer into a pleasurable state of disorientation.
