Bob Clyatt

California-born artist Bob Clyatt’s work inevitably reflects patterns of fusion—among them ancient and contemporary, organic and technological or Asian and Western. His work uses the human form as a vehicle for discovery: ancient selves in modern contexts. Working with such a historically loaded subject as the figure has challenges for Clyatt, as cultural and historical allusion become a medium in his work. He often works iteratively, creating series and exploring an idea or approach over a period of years.

Clyatt has shown his sculptural works in a number of exhibitions incuding Rye Arts Center, Rye, NY, Center for Visual Communication in Wynwood, Miami, NY Sculptors Alliance summer exhibition on Governors Island, New York, Dacia Gallery, NY, and Museum of New Art (MONA), Detroit, among others. Two of Clyatt’s works were recently acquired for the permanent collections of contemporary art museums. Raku Man on Pillar was gifted to Burchfield-Penney Museum in Buffalo, NY and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Sicily, Catania, acquired Nursing Mother with Smartphone for their growing collection of contemporary figurative sculpture.
