Cara Enteles

Cara Enteles’ work is motivated by a fascination with nature and a concern for the environment. She splits her time between NYC and rural northeast Pennsylvania, where she keeps a large organic garden and has easy access to the wilderness. The ability to observe nature over time helps her understand how the natural world works which informs her work.

Surface and materials are a big part of her practice. The paintings are done on layering of transparent colored acrylic sheet (Plexiglas) or aluminum panels. These inorganic surfaces provide contrast to the nature imagery. The surfaces, which are transparent or reflective, allow the painting to change with the light, mimicking the natural world. The transparent grounds are painted on both sides of the material, enhancing the depth of space in the work.
