D*Face
London–born urban artist Dean Stockton, also known as D*Face, began, like many of his contemporaries, creating his own hand made posters and pasting them on the streets of his hometown. Early in his career, D*Face established a connection with Thrasher magazine, whose images and direct relationship with the culture of skateboarding and punk would influence him greatly and therefore his work. He completed a course in illustration and graphic design and worked as a freelance artist at the same time that he began experimenting with graffiti.
D*Face’s aPOPcalipsis uses Pop art imagery from Andy Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein to explore the ideal of the "American dream," critiquing the almost unhealthy fascination with fashion and celebrities, fame and consumerism. His work stands out for its vivid colors, clean lines and for his use of comic-style depiction.
In 2010, D*Face collaborated with American singer Christina Aguilera for her "Bionic" album cover and in 2013 he took part in the exhibition Art Wars at the Saatchi Gallery. He has painted murals in cities like New York, Tokyo and Las Vegas, and Malaga, Spain, where his largest sits next to one created by Shepard Fairey, both commissioned by the city’s Museum of Contemporary Art. …
