Ellen Jong

Ellen Jong is a conceptual artist whose work deals with self-discovery. She employs a variety of media to both intervene in and re-contextualize the everyday. Born in Queens, NY in 1976, she was schooled by her father, a celebrated Chinese calligrapher/painter. Her series of photographic self-portraits while urinating in public over eight years debuted with Vice Magazine in 2000. Issues of identity, territory, power and mortality continue to figure in her work. In 2012, her solo show, The Invisible Line, exhibited at Allegra LaViola Gallery. Jong is the author of Pees On Earth (powerHouse 2006) and Getting To Know My Husband’s Cock, (Self 2010).

She lives and works from the Lower East Side and Upstate NY.
