Elpis CHOW

Currently based in Hong Kong, Elphis Chow is an emerging visual artist who specializes in painting; she also works with prints and drawings. Chow’s works often feature the “odd side” of the Hong Kong cityscape - street corners, buildings, construction sites, housing estate corridors, and ramps etc, these are places that we regularly pass by in real life but never cared to stop and look. Through depicting these ordinary but forgotten scenes on canvas, the artist evokes a visually contrasting sense of familiarity and strangeness.

Chow graduated from HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity in 2017, majoring in illustration and painting. Her solo exhibitions organized by Gallery EXIT in Hong Kong include The Other Side (2021) and Blunt (2018). Another recent solo show is 色づき (旅耕社, Japan, 2019). She has participated in the following group exhibitions: New Page (Touch Gallery, Hong Kong, 2023); The Unsung (Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hong Kong, 2021); Art 021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair (2018); Art Shenzhen 2017 (Gallery EXIT, 2017) and To Each, his Zone (Gallery EXIT, Hong Kong, 2017). Her works were also shown at Art Basel Hong Kong in 2019 and 2022.
