Genevieve Hamel
Genevieve’s mixed backgrounds in animal and plant science along with her love for design and woodwork transpire in her oil paintings and drawings. It starts on a wood panel, a solid rooted material that allow her to express her passion, energy, and/or vulnerability through layers of oil-based glazes, heavy palette knives, and strong or soft large brushstrokes—leaving partially some of the background exposed to create the “perfect imperfect”.
Originally from Quebec, Canada, Genevieve moved to North Carolina in 1997. Her new adventure with her family gave her the opportunity to leave her career as an animal and plant scientist and grew her passion for art and design. She started to design custom furniture, build them & remodel old plantation houses. After exploring a couple of States, the family rooted in Kansas City. She decided to return to school and got her degree in Interior Design with a specialty in Kitchen design. As she still actively working as a kitchen designer for a design firm in Kansas City MO, Genevieve challenged herself to participate in her first Art Show in 2020.
