Jacob Cartwright

Jacob Cartwright seeks to create a kind of architectural painting. Forms are nested beside each other with a calibrated tension, expanses of pure color interlock with sections of dense patterning. Despite this precision, idiosyncrasies are embraced, taking as a guide the way pattern languages are adapted to fit a specific site. A particular kind of painterly space is sought, one that alludes to stereometric form while veils of translucent color suggest a more immaterial visual space.

He has shown at Spring Break Art Fair, C2C Project Space in San Francisco and has been featured with Gridspace and Transmitter Gallery in Brooklyn.
