Jeffrey Milstein

The spare, almost anatomical photographs of Jeffrey Milstein display his fascination with modern aircrafts as the culmination of achievements in engineering and design. Using a high-resolution digital camera carefully positioned at the end of a runway, he photographs the planes as they speed past him overhead, capturing pristine, vibrant views that, taken together, function as a modern-day typology. Milstein's other occupations as architect, graphic designer, and private pilot all contribute to his signature approach to photography, which also takes on political and cultural weight in the post-9/11 era.

Milstein's work has been exhibited widely, including shows at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (2011-12), Bonni Benrubi Gallery (2009), Morgan Lehman Gallery (2006), and the Portland Art Museum (2003).
