Kim Fisher

While they often resemble large-scale collage, Kim Fisher’s systematically painted canvases are created through a process of layering oil on linen. Incorporating materials sourced from magazines, paper bags and newspaper clippings, Fisher’s images are at once vaguely recognizable and abstracted. In her ongoing series Magazine Paintings, which began in 2011, Fisher explores single-color compositions that evoke gradation, landscape and reflected light. Creating collage studies for each work in the series, Fisher transforms the textural nature of torn paper with light-handed technicality.

Fisher has shown her work in a number of exhibitions and venues throughout the word including The Modern Institute, Glasgow, Scotland, International Art Objects, Los Angeles, CA, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA , Shane Campbell Gallery, Lincoln Park, Chicago, IL, Nils Staerk Contemporary Art, Copenhagen, Denmark, Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea, Lisbon, Portugal, and China Art Objects Galleries, Los Angeles, CA, among others.
