Leigh Wells

California-based mixed media artist Leigh Wells is most known for her mixed media collage-drawings composed of found images with painted accents and interventions. Deconstructing pre-existing images and materials—ranging from vintage papers to found photographs—the artist subverts the original context of the components and makes them into something new. In addition to her works on paper, Wells also creates sculptural works using found materials such as wood, fabric, and various hardwares.

Wells received her BFA from the University of San Francisco. She has exhibited in a number of galleries in San Francisco—with solo shows at Gregory Lind Gallery, Ampersand International Arts, and Gallery 16—as well as group shows in New York at Zieher Smith; CES Gallery in Los Angeles; and abroad in Germany and the Netherlands. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, and Elle Decor. She lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.
