Lucio del Pezzo

Painter, draughtsman and printmaker; born 1933 in Naples where he studied at the Accademia delle belle Arti; founding member of the magazine 'Documento sud' and of Gruppo 58 in the late 1950s; in 1960 he moved to Milan where he had his first solo show at galleria Schwarz and in 1963 he showed in the United States where he won the Carnegie International Award; exhibited at the Milan Triennale (1964) and the Venice Biennale (1964 and 1966) where he had a solo show at the latter Biennale where his work began to express a rational, metaphysical geometry based on archetypal forms; from 1965 he showed regularly at Studio Marconi in Milan; lived and worked for a number of years in Paris, before returning to Milan in 1977.
