Marianne Gagnier

Marianne Gagnier’s paintings start with color intuition and proceed through a directional process of trial and error. Physical forces, oppositions and color relations drive the search for form. When a specific emotional experience appears, the painting gains autonomy. She identifies content in the work with a wide range of sources of inspiration: from current events to the world of myths and archetypes.

Gagnier has had one-person exhibitions at Thomas Deans and Company, Atlanta, Maurice Arlos Gallery, and Prince Street Gallery, New York. Selected group exhibitions include Anthony Philip Gallery, New York, Sideshow Gallery, New York, Life on Mars, Western Carolina University, Haverford College, Ingber Gallery, and the New York Studio School. Her work is in numerous private collections and the permanent collections of Western Carolina University, Bryn Mawr College and the Public Securities Association.
