May DeViney

May DeViney comes from the Midwest and retains an identification with surrealist realism and rustic romanticism that is reminiscent of artists such as Grant Wood and H.C. Westermann. Her paintings, installations, mixed media works, and work made from society’s detritus have hints of Renaissance and historical art, often expressing themes of social and environmental issues. Feminist and women’s rights issues continue to inform and inspire Ms. DeViney’s work.
