Miriam Laura Leonardi

Swiss-German artist Miriam Laura Leonardi creates photographs, videos, and sculptures that explore notions of the individual as subject and participant in society. The white cube is a prime social space to explore this dynamic as it highlights the relationship between subject, object, and viewer. For instance, in Picture in Rome, 2015, Leonardi photographs a statue, but does not allow the camera to focus. The blurring and abstraction in this work forces the viewer to be self aware of their role as spectator in this space.

Leonardi’s work has been extensively exhibited in group and solo shows, including Istituto Svizzero di Roma, Rome, Istituto Svizzero, Milan, Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo, Kunsthalle St.Gallen, Geneva, Plymouth Rock, Zurich, Galerie Maris Bernheim, Zurich, and TG Gallery, London. She has received many awards, including the Kadist Production Award.
