Troy Simmons

Troy Simmons is a Miami based artist, currently in residency at the Bakehouse Art Complex in Wynwood’s Art District. He explores identity and cultural stereotypes through color, form and structure. Utilizing common materials such as concrete, fabric, salvaged wood, steel and aluminum, he creates work that reflects the themes echoed during the Arte Povera movement. Early childhood explorations through the piney woods of East Texas inspired his creativity. He saw a parallel between his upbringing in the urban neighborhoods of Houston Texas and the destructive yet necessary growth patterns of a plant by the name Berchemia scandens. This encounter was the catalyst that sparked an ongoing interest in art, architecture and nature.

Some of his most recent exhibitions include VOLTA New York (2018), Dialogue: JanKossen Contemporary Chelsea, NY (2018), Nuovi Orizzonti : Venice, Italy (2018) and ART Paris (2019). Simmons earned an Architectural Degree from Oklahoma State University and also studied Environmental Science at Sam Houston State University.
