Vivien Bittencourt

Vivien Bittencourt has photographed and documented the artists, poets, and musicians of New York City since the 1980s, as well as historical and archeological sites and natural landscapes. Several artists have been the subjects of her documentaries, including Rudy Burckhardt, Kiki Smith and Alex Katz. She has made films about writers, including Gregory Corso, Allen Ginsberg, Kenneth Koch, Cookie Mueller, Eileen Myles and Rene Ricard.

 

Her documentary films include Kiki Smith: Squatting The Palace, Man in the Woods: The Art of Rudy Burckhardt, Hanuman Presents!, Mexico City Blues (poetry by Jack Kerouac) and Con El Mismo Amor (collaboration with artist Jan Henle.) Her films have been screened in a number of festivals and venues, including the Film Forum, the 25th Montreal International Festival of Films on Art, Berkeley Film and Video Festival, the Gwang Ju Biennale, and Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv, as well as in festivals in Milan, Naples and Florence.
