Carole Vanderlinden

Carole Vanderlinden's paintings are powerful, direct, disorienting and comical. With a deep admiration for old masters such as Picabia, Cranach, Bruegel, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Giotto, Matisse, and Cézanne; Vanderlinden makes nods to art history in her deceptively simple paintings. Employing layering and texture, her works possess a richness and depth beyond their abstract, flattened renderings. Vanderlinden's reverence of nature is apparent in her work, and she often incorporates natural imagery in her works; drawing inspiration from mountains, plants, animals, and crystals.

Vanderlinden has had solo shows at the Galerie Zwart Huis in Brussels, (2017); TOTEM Edition Populaire in Antwerp, Belgium (2017); De Garage in Mechelen, Belgium (2016); Kristof De Clercq in Gent (2015), O.C.A.M. in Mechelen, Belgium (2013); Pocketroom in Antwerp, Belgium (2012); and Galerie Van De Weghe in Antwerp, Belgium (2009). She has also participated in numerous group shows across Belgium. She lives and works in Brussels.
