Aleksandar Popovic, Sinking Islands IV
In his paintings, Aleksandar Popovic presents us with an outlook on the future that is both otherworldly and disquieting. In his Sinking Island series, the artist through his paintings exposes the fragile and temporary nature of the land surrounded by masses of rising water. In his own words, the islands are remnants of the land and in the process of dissolution. The notion of a humanless world is conveyed in his Glacier series, as human dwellings are threatened by the force of steady glacier movement. For his Capsule and Station series, Popovic projects that in not too distant future human inhabitants may be pushed out of the Earth and need to be constantly on the move in search of livable spaces. His stations and pod dwellings represent small movable structures in response to the impact of overbuilding on the planet earth.
