E. Ainsley
E. Ainsley is a visual artist whose work explores the duality of inner and outer modes of existence. Provoking thought, movement and sensation through use of cut collages and colorfully obsessive circles. Her practice expresses outwardly in two distinct ways, however they both address the similar dialectic between the self and the other: a fluid construction. Ainsley’s work ultimately strives to acknowledge this construction and illuminate the fact that all boundaries exist in shared space.
The Dadaists believed society is revealed by what it throws away. Collage filters the sensory overload from “out there” and Ainsley removes photos from their context and reassigns their purpose in a surreal world. Sourcing collage imagery is methodical and obsessive. It projects a sterile, timeless and silent space to shed the ubiquity of advertisements and reconfigure the familiar. Ainsley traces appropriated media with scissors for the collage works, and traces one line over and over in the Circle Series—a way of marking time that leads to a meditative stillness.
Ainsley has participated in group exhibitions at a number of galleries and in 2014 held the ARTELES Creative Residency, in Hämeenkyrö, Finland. She is the recipient of a Career Opportunity grant from the Oregon Arts Commission and a nominee …
