About The Work
Detroit Crystal Monolith is a living computer that has been infused with the radical protons of sights and sounds of Detroit Techno Music. According to the artist, the mysterious object has infused within its veins the circuitry of ancient alchemical sciences mixed with the algorithms of the TR-808 synthetic rhythm machine. Edgar Arceneaux’s mythology about this work claims that the "mother original" Crystal Monolith is an unmarked memorial at the burial site where the Detroit Uprisings sparked off in 1967. He invites the viewer to, “Plug the monolith into your TV or laptop and be exposed to the next stage evolution.”
