Gilman Contemporary is pleased to announce "Unseen World" an exhibition featuring the precise paintings of Oakland based painter Kelly Ording. Ording's works on paper and canvas are intuitive and raw, yet subtly polished. Often drawing on the landscape and coastlines of California, Ording interprets her surroundings through geometry, composition, and minimalism.

Artist Statement:

"An Unseen World

The artwork created for “An Unseen World” include two varying styles; abstracted landscapes and mathematical, geometric works.  Although both types of work employ different approaches and achieve different outcomes, both contain meticulous line-work, and a bold use of color and shape.  Inspired by the natural settings of California, the landscape-based works are the result of an intuitive process of modifying process, materials and composition.  These portraits are, in truth, places that don’t truly exist except possibly in the imagination of the viewer.  Alternatively, the geometric works are the result of  pre-determined plans, compositions and studies of color and shape.  Within all these works is an exploration of representation and minimalism, intuition and intention and a refinement of technique."
