INTERNATIONAL PRINT CENTER NEW YORK (IPCNY) presents the fifty-ninth presentation of its New Prints Program, a biannual, juried open call for prints and print-based work created in the preceding twelve months. Titled Forms of Enclosure, this exhibition features 30 artists from the United States, Argentina, France, Poland, Canada, and Bulgaria.
While the artists in this exhibition are coming from different places and points in their careers, a common thread throughout the work is the shaping of space, both literally and metaphorically. These spaces range from Arel Lisette Peckler’s ghostly nooks, to Alicja Grobelka and Sean P. Morrissey’s architectural abstractions, to Enrique Leal’s biomorphic portals. Rashid Johnson, Kyung Eun You, and Kate Liebman
all use grids to build their compositions, while Judith Linhares and Ulrike Müller both use lively forms to thwart structure. In capturing the ways that one can actively create or resist enclosure, this exhibition shapes a narrative around what it means in the current moment to hold personal, social, and political space. The three awardees of the New Prints Artist Development Program will be announced at the opening reception on January 17. Check our website and social media for public program announcements, including artist talks and a Pint n’ Print workshop with this cycle’s Artist-in-Residence.
