Matt Mele’s Vacancy series features the vacant landscapes and architectural spaces of resort towns located along the Northeast. Mele is from Wildwood, New Jersey, a small island located off the Jersey Shore. Wildwood has been a satellite home for Mele’s family since the 1950's. Matt has spent all of his summers in Wildwood while frequently visiting in the off-season to maintain his family's business. Mele has been documenting the area's architecture and the subsequent scenes of a town that relies on tourism in its summer months.

Vacancy is an ongoing project to document not only the short term, but also long-term effects of a town that relies on seasonal inhabitants.

This summer Nordstrom is extending their heritage of service by opening a Nordstrom Local pop-up in Southampton. From May 27 through September 7, Nordstrom will offer our convenient services at this 850-square-foot location including online order pickup, alterations, returns and more for customers who live, work and travel in the Hamptons. Within this time, original photographs by Matt Mele will be on display.
