    About The Work

Garden in the Tree is one of the artist's signature works that is playfully transformative, combining human anatomy with natural observation. In a white-primed background he carefully centers a tree branch that is held by some unknown character. Upon closer inspection however, we find the branch is filled with biodiversity, a veritable Garden of Eden, ripe with everything including a the cunning serpent. The subdued, self-consuming preciousness of his work expresses Ji Dachun's irreverent, individualistic aesthetic unique amongst the Chinese avant-garde.
