Ketta Ioannidou
Ketta Ioannidou is a Cyprus-born artist who works primarily with oil paint to create flowing images that evoke the various energies of the universe. Says the artist of her intentions, “my paintings exist in a dream-like state between two worlds creating a fleeting, weightless moment. Their essence migrates between water, sky and land, merging memories of near and far. I attempt to capture movement in nature and dissipating phenomena. Reminiscent of memories of growing up on the island of Cyprus, like the way the sky was peaking through the grapevines along the veranda of my late grandmother’s house, or how the horizon dividing water and land dissipated at certain moments of the day, an imaginary timeless place is formed where new histories can be realized. In a pursuit to investigate personal relationships to cultural dislocation and memory, nature, and site, my work becomes a continuous attempt to build bridges between different worlds and realities.”
Ioannidou’s paintings and installations have been shown in the number of exhibitions including The Centre of Contemporary Art Diatopos, Nicosia, Cyprus, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, New York, the Carriage House at The Islip Art Museum, New York, Heist Gallery, New York, Foxy Production, New …
