— WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH —

Opening reception for Eric LoPresti: "No Bue Skies" at Kunsthalle Galapagos, 16 Main Street, Brooklyn, 6–9 p.m. (through March 10th)

Having previously painted nuclear test sites, aerial views of the desert, and other more morose landscapes, the aritst turns his attention to depicting a giant dust cloud with the help of the color gradient.

Art talk with Rebecca Rabinow at the New York Studio School, 8 West 8th Street, 6:30

The Met's Modern and contemporary art curator will discuss both Matisse's work and how she was able to get so much of it into the museum.

 — THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH —

Opening reception for Alighiero Boetti: "La Forza del Centro" at Gladstone Gallery, 515 West 24th Street, 6–8 p.m. (through March 23rd)

If you loved the Italian artist's retrospective at MoMA last year, you'll be sure to enjoy this exhibition of Boetti's "Arazzi" works—colorfully gridded tapestries interspersed with text—most of which have never been previously exhibited.

Opening reception for Jean-Michel Basquiat at Gagosian Gallery, 555 West 24th Street, 6–8 p.m. (through April 6th)

In yet another museum-quality exhibition at a Chelsea gallery that is sure to be the art-world event of the week, Gagosian presents over 50 works from the iconic painter.

— FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8TH —

Opening of "Gravity and Grace: Monumental Works by El Anatsui" at the Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. (through August 4th)

Opening reception for "Gutai Historical Survey and Contemporary Response" at the San Francisco Art Institute, 800 Chestnut Street, San Francisco, 6–9 p.m. (through March 30th)

Continuing the recent surge of interest in Gutai, the postwar Japanese avant-garde artist collective, the SFAI will host the first West Coast survey exhibition of the group's work, which includes live, site-specific performances by local artists.

Opening reception for "Dan Flavin/Donald Judd Sets/Series" at Senior & Shopmaker Gallery, 210 Eleventh Avenue, 8th Floor, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (through March 30th)

Subdued prints aren't the first thing you'd associate with these two Minimalist titans, but traces of their iconic sculptures can be found throughout the exhibition.

— SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH —

Lunar New Year Celebration at MoMA PS1, 22-25 Jackson Avenue, Queens, 3–6 p.m.

To celebrate the advent of the Chinese year of the snake, design duo CONFETTISYSTEM will be hosting an afternoon of food, games, and music. Be sure to check out their current installation, 100 Arrangements, while you're there.

Opening reception for Jeremy Bolen's "Cern" at Andrew Rafacz Gallery, 835 West Washington Street, Chicago, 4–7 p.m. (through March 30th)

Bolen collaborates with scientists to create a series of new work that employ elements of nature as recording devices in an effort to change the paradigm of documentary photography.

— SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10TH —

"#MidnightMoment" at Times Square 42nd Street, New York, 11:57 p.m. — 12 a.m. (through February 28th)

For three minutes every night in February, screens throughout Times Square will flash work by Turner Prize-winning artist Tracey Emin. Tag yourself and a friend in a picture with the work and you could win a set of prints by Emin.
