    About The Work

Over the past decade, German artist Michael Riedel has been re-staging and re-presenting existing texts, objects, and audio recordings to explore the idea of the “archive” as it exists in fine art. This entirely original publication continues in that vein, comprising the first and only existing document of Oskar-von-Miller Strasse 16 (2000–2011), a collaborative project-cum-art-space launched by Riedel and his friend Dennis Loesch in 2000. Using an abandoned Frankfurt building as an experimental laboratory, the artists restaged cultural events held at other locations throughout the city, effectively duplicating them in space and time. Produced by the Riedel himself, this publication offers a comprehensive, first-hand history of the yet-to-be-canonized Oskar-von-Miller Strasse 16. Utilizing a printed archive of audio and visual materials, from photographs to the typed transcripts of two “Conferences of Anecdotes,” this multimedia account chronicles the eleven years of various activities that went on inside this pioneering art space, existing both as art object in and of itself and as historical archive.
