About The Work

In Olivo Barbieri's Alps series, vistas captured from unbelievable perspectives become crisp, colorblocked images of nature. Barbieri hired a helicopter and photographed from above in order to achieve such stunning, painterly representations of hikers scaling the Italian Alps. Later, he applied a technique termed "solid color," wherein he erased and whited out parts of the peaks so as to enhance the work's sublime qualities.
