Yin Zhaoyang

Born in Henan in 1970, Yin Zhaoyang came of age in a post-Mao China. The artist graduated from Beijing's prestigious Central Institute of Fine Arts' Department of Printmaking and became a pioneer in the artistic exploration of his generation's discontentment by portraying symbols of culture and political reality. His paintings communicate a sense of transcendental memory—a process whereby memory is culled and examined more for its image making potential and evocative properties than for capturing reality. By virtue of this process of examination and reflection, a connection is created between artist and subject without critical or judgmental stance. The artist has had numerous international exhibitions, including solo exhibitions at Tang Contemporary, Hong Kong; the Minsheng Bank Art Museum, Shanghai; the Iberia Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing; DF2 Gallery, Los Angeles; the Asia Art Center, Taiwan; ARCO Madrid, Spain, and Tang Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand.
