Adi Nes

Frequently drawing inspiration from his Israeli heritage, Adi Nes constructs highly stylized photographs, which often seek to expose the latent homoeroticism inherent in machismo. Sparking some controversy, his series of Israeli soldiers emphasized their defined musculature and sensuality, featuring sleeping and vulnerable figures. Often re-staging seminal works from Western art, Nes inserts gay Israeli models, thereby inserting his own autobiography into the history of art. He has seen his works exhibited at a number of public and private institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and the Jewish Museum in New York.
