Through his extensive travels and interest in cultural absorption, Peruvian artist Armando Andrade Tudela’s work often explores the theme of displacement.Tudela is well known for his 2003 Camion series, which is comprised of sixty 35mm slides, each documenting a truck seen by the artist on his numerous road trips driving Peruvian highways. Each a record of the phenomenon of abstract murals painted on trucks, the work echos design aspects from different European artists which Tudela highlights in order to explore the overlapping histories through which images are generated, translated and interpreted.
Tudela has had a number of exhibitions including the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, Museo de Arte de Lima, Lima, Frankfurter Kunstverein, and the Centre d’Art Contemporain, Saint-Nazaire, France. Group exhibitions and residencies include La Cité des Arts, Paris in 2000, the 2006 São Paulo Biennial, the 2006 Shanghai Biennial and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.
