Dor Guez is a multidisciplinary artist and lecturer in the History & Theory Department at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. He is also a PhD researcher in the Faculty of Arts at Tel Aviv University. Guez's work integrates his research of archives and employs photographs and video installations to engage and challenge the boundaries and prevalent binary oppositions of nationalism, religion, and ethnicity. Guez's personal history plays an important role in his practice, which explores the Christian-Palestinian minority in Israel and the history of Lod. His work has been the subject of several solo exhibitions at the Petach Tikva Museum of Art; The Jewish Museum, New York; KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin; The Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv; the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and Beursschouwburg Art Center, Brussels, among others. Guez is the recipient of the Orgler Research Fund for PhD scholars, Tel Aviv University; the Perlmutter Visiting Artist Award, Rose Art Museum; the Young Artist Prize, Ministry of Culture, Israel; and is the 2012-13 International Artist-in-Residence at Artpace, San Antonio. He will have his first U.S. solo exhibition 100 Steps to the Mediterranean at the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University in Fall 2012.
