Erin Shirreff

Erin Shirreff creates an object using one medium and then builds upon it using another. For example, she frequently appropriates images, and then re-photographs them hundreds of times to create stop-motion animated films. Each of her works has a similar layering of mediums. Shirreff's work has been included in recent exhibitions at MoMA PS1, SculptureCenter, New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Ballroom Marfa in Texas, and White Flag Projects in St. Louis. She recently mounted a solo exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, and will exhibit at The Power Plant, in Toronto, and the Aspen Art Museum in 2011. Her work has been reviewed in ArtForum, The New Yorker, Frieze, The New York Times, Modern Painters and Time Out New York, and is included in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Guggenheim Museum, New York.
