Sean Dack

Sean Dack’s work investigates, via photography, printmaking, and video, the relationship between the contemporary and the antiquated. His work often utilizes Romantic tropes and images of masculinity while simultaneously undermining their potency. In one series, analog stereo systems coated in a protective and prophylactic rubber casement are immortalized as objects of consumer taste made completely impotent. In another, from 2007, Philip K. Dick’s apocalyptic predictions of the future, made in 1981, are set to sheet music of Top 40 hits for the year each prediction was supposed to be realized. Dack’s work has been exhibited at institutions including the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle, the Zabludowicz Collection in London, the Kitchen, Beijing’s Songzhuan Art Center, the Reykjavik Art Museum, the Serpentine Gallery, and the Frankfurter Kunstverein, among others.
