Beatriz Mihazes

Beatriz Milhazes is well known for her vibrantly colorful, kaleidoscopic collages, prints, paintings and installations which draw on both Latin American and European traditions. Milhazes’ rigorously structured compositions are punctuated by a recurring set of arabesque motifs inspired by Brazilian culture, ceramics, lacework, carnival decoration, music, and Colonial baroque architecture.


Milhazes is considered one of the leading Brazilian artists. She consolidated her career in the national and international arts circuit, participating in the Venice Biennial (2003), São Paulo Biennial (1998 and 2004) and Shanghai Biennial (2006). With solo shows in museums and prestigious institutions such as Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, São Paulo, Fondation Cartier, Paris, Fondation Beyeler, Basel and most recently at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon, Museo de Arte Latinoamericano, Buenos Aires and Pérez Art Museum Miami, Miami.
