Casey Jane Ellison

Casey Jane Ellison is a comedian and video artist who is known for her dry, satirical humor and her pointed critiques of the art world. She is the founder of Aboveground Animation, an artist community, video collection, and transitory exhibition platform that has regularly hosted contemporary artists including Barry Doupe, Jacolby Satterwhite, and Juliana Huxtable, among others. Her own videos revolve around her pointed rants, tutorials, and the physical transformation of her person through live-action mutation by way of 3D rendering programs. Her interview talk-show series on Ovation entitled “Touching the Art” considers the “barriers between the uninitiated viewer and the contemporary art world” with guests including A.L. Steiner and Jori Finkel, among others. Her practice revolves around the demystification of art and fashion by way of piercing humor and naivety.


Ellison has had her work exhibited at MoMA PS 1, New York, e-flux, New York, Museum of Art and Design, New York, New Museum, New York, and MOCA Los Angeles, California, among others. She participated in 2015 Triennial: Surround Audience at the New Museum.
