    About The Work

For The Roots of Industry Candice Lin reinterprets an engraving of the Potosí silver mines in Bolivia by Theodor de Bry. The Andean potato was cultivated to feed indigenous miners mining silver and mercury in places like Potosí. In turn, this silver and the excess potatoes travelled across the sea and fuelled the Industrial Revolution in the UK and Europe. This print has been produced to accompany Candice Lin's exhibition A Body Reduced to Brilliant Colour at Gasworks, her first UK solo show.
