Charles Hinman is known for his three-dimensionally shaped canvases that engage the real space of sculpture as well as the illusionary space of painting. When making a print–a process inherently flat–he uses embossment to create a "strong illusion of the third dimension." The colors of his silkscreens make their own space–advancing or receding to provide depth of field. This work’s color arrangement gives the impression of a strong wind blowing open monochrome flaps.
