About The Work

Martha Wilson applies permutation, a practice so dear to the conceptual artists of the 1960s and the 1970s, to one of the most fetishized aspects of the femal anatomy: the breasts. In Breast Forms Permutated the artist, mocking the tendency to control the femal body and establish universal standards of feminine beauty, Wilson places the "perfect set" at the center of her grid of 9 images of breasts.
