BAM has a rich legacy of fostering collaborations with contemporary visual artists, both on and off the stage. As early as 1957, Merce Cunningham and John Cage presented Nocturnes, featuring stage design and costumes by Robert Rauschenberg. For the inaugural Next Wave Festival in 1983, BAM commissioned a poster by renowned artist Roy Lichtenstein. In the decades since, BAM has continued to collaborate with artists on challenging exhibitions and events. To support those programs and give collectors opportunities to acquire works by important contemporary artists, BAM has produced limited editions, silent auctions, and original works for our BAMbill cover art series, bringing together artists ranging from Sol LeWitt to Yoshitomo Nara to Carrie Mae Weems.
