About The Work
When Johannes Cladder became director of the Stadtisches Museum in Mönchengladbach, Germany in 1967 he initiated a series of catalogues which also acted as multiples to accompany each of the museum's solo exhibitions. Starting with Joseph Beuys and going on to include George Brecht & Robert Filliou, Marcel Broodthaers, Daniel Buren, Hanne Darboven, Braco Dimitrijevic, Joel Fisher, Jonas Hafner, Jasper Johns, Jannis Kounellis, Richard Long, Panamarenko, Gerhard Richter, Lawrence Weiner, and others, the Mönchengladbach boxes became an influential touchstone for the artists’ books genre. This exhibition catalogue was created to accompany Piero Manzoni’s posthumous solo exhibition that ran from November 26, 1969 to January 4, 1970. The edition consists of a molded plastic box containing a booklet with texts in German by Udo Kultermann and Johannes Cladders.
