Amanda C. Mathis’ work encompasses site-specific interventions, assemblage, sculpture, photography, and collage. Using home interiors, architectural imagery, and salvaged home decor materials, she explores the idea of home as a reflection of its inhabitants. Her interest lies in the residue of history and human existence found in the domestic space, which she uses to talk about memory, personal narrative, and the meaning of dwelling.

Mathis has had solo exhibitions at James Nicholson Gallery, New York, Smack Mellon New York, and Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, WI. She has been included in group and two-person exhibitions at Open Source Gallery New York, Kunsthalle Galapagos New York, the Freedman Gallery at Albright College, PA, helper New York, and Gallery Molly Krom New York. Mathis has participated in the Artist in the Marketplace program at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Workspace program, and the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts residency. She was a recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in 2011 and a NYFA Fellowship (Crafts/Sculpture) in 2014.
