Andrea Tese
Andrea Tese's photographs create narrative through the elevation of the commonplace. As she hones in on specific places, events, and people, she begins to craft her finely tuned portrayal of the world she sees around her. Her project, The Old Story in a New Way, for instance, explores the role of the rugged lifestyle of hunting in modern society, touching on such timeless themes as survival, heroism, and the relationship between man and nature. By using titles from Frederic Remington paintings, Tese links her very contemporary, and often abrasive, imagery to the idealized concept of the Old West—thus leaving the viewer with not only a document of what she saw and experienced, but a flavor of how she interprets the subjects that she comes across. Conversely, her series, Inheritance, explores a more personal subject, chronicling and memorializing the life of the artist's late grandfather through intricate arrangements of the entirety of his worldly possessions.
Tese has shown in a number of exhibitions including solo shows at De Buck Gallery and Heist Gallery, New York. Group shows include Copelouzos Museum, Athens, Greece, Palais de Glace, Buenos Aires, Argentina, The Center for Fine art Photography, Ft. Collins, CO, …
