Schirin Kretschmann

Schirin Kretschmann lives and works in Berlin and has studied fine arts at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe and the Universität Basel. Her practice explores the contemporary discourse of painting as it pertains to the moving image, three-dimensional space, and time; her works are mainly abstract, formally defined sculptural in situ installations built into public and institutional spaces, in which her artworks are understood as ephemeral occurrences that depend on spectators’ subjective points of view. For Solo hoy (mañana tambien) (2007), for instance, Kretschmann filled several bags with colored ice that, as it melted, spread across the gallery floor, and eventually dried.
