Christian Aberle

German artist Christian Aberle switches between drawing, video and printing, working with created imagery and found footage. Setting single frames of restrained color in between monochromatic color fields in his black and white video sequences, Aberle evokes a surreal image—encapsulating and echoing a visual narration. His recent image series—sets of india ink and graphite drawings—are dedicated to objects that alienate us, as their origin and function are not completely fathomable. Aberle confronts sculptural objects with abstraction, thus creating series of subtle beauty, whose matter always leads us back to ourselves. Titles such as Something that has a Deceitful Resemblance, Mystery of a Stump, and A Face in the Steps gain the viewers interest by juxtaposing indifference, narration and association.
