Christian Marclay was born in California but raised in Switzerland. Schooled in Geneva, Boston, and New York, Marclay has shown a lot of interest in the art of sound, becoming an intrepid avant-gardist in the non-conventional use of instruments and sound-mixing tools; even going so far as to perform with American rock band Sonic Youth. Parallel to his more experimental undertakings, Marclay also became one of 2011's official art champions when he won the Gold Lion prize at the Venice Biennale for The Clock, a 24-hour-long film consisting of snippets of time-related scenes from movies that, pieced together, allow one to tell the time at any moment.Read Less
