Mother Gallery is pleased to present “Tools, Totems, Traps”, the first exhibition in our new location, with work by Jessica Gaddis, Alessandro Keegan, Caitlin MacQueen, Joshua Marsh, Yuri Masnyj, and Carter Spurrier. 

The exhibition's title is borrowed from one of Masnyj’s drawings. Masnyj employs an architectural instinct for categorization—his sculptures are made from fragments of the city they visually abbreviate. Gaddis’ sculptures present a method of lateral thinking that suggest a surreal intersection of form and function while the immediate presence of Spurrier's graphite environments render domestic details fantastic. Marsh flattens and stretches perspective, forming symbolic gestures that pull the viewer through his hermetic space and MacQueen reveals glimpses into the narrative of a subversive alter-ego. Keegan’s paintings of what might be celestial orbs or glistening gems balance between an open symmetry and a luring energy. 

The work in “Tools, Totems, Traps" presents various systems for creation that share a corporeal, inward logic. Through an orderly engagement with their own practice, these artists dance the dance of knowing when to hone a detail and when to let the hand loose. 

The Exhibition opens on Saturday, May 11th, from 6-9 pm at Mother Gallery's new location: 1154 North Avenue in Beacon, New York.
