Franklin Evans Bio

About The Artist

Franklin Evans is a multimedia artist known for his paintings, sculptures, and installations that explore the process of making art. Initially trained as a painter, his brightly colored geometric watercolors evoke the chaotic abstractions of Terry Winters and Julie Mehretu. Evans's installations incorporate studio materials like tape, bubble wrap, pieces of unstretched canvas, and exhibition press releases. By highlighting materials that normally play second fiddle to the final product, Evans delights in the work of making art rather than the alleged perfection of a "finished" artwork. Evans has exhibited in New York at MoMA PS1, El Museo del Barrio, The Drawing Center, Apexart, and in galleries across the United States and in Europe.
